July included a lot of fun times with family. My brother from Texas came up and my sister from Montana also came down. So, what is the perfect family activity? Camping. We went up into the mountains where there was no cell reception and spent a couple days playing with cousins and making memories.
Robert came out the first night to help us set up the tent and we all stayed for dinner. The kids had fun exploring and taking their dad on a little nature hike.
Rachel and Elizabeth were the only ones who got to stay the night, though. The older kids had to head home for some 4-H stuff in the morning, but as soon as that was over we headed right back up camping. The kids all got to decorate a shirt with fabric paints. On the front they were supposed to outline their hand and decorate. On the back they were supposed to put some kind of a nickname. Most of the kids picked some kind of favorite dessert. It was cute to see what they came up with.
Once again it was difficult to get some of the kids to nap. Elizabeth kept saying over and over that she wasn't tired, but then she sat down in a chair and promptly fell asleep. Word to the wise, don't fall asleep in public, especially around playful uncles. There was a challenge going around to see how high you could stack Cheerios on a sleeping baby. Well we didn't have Cheerios so he made a pyramid out of goldfish crackers. She also got a couple of stickers.
The next day we went boating. Taylor and Rachel were on a tube together and Taylor's face collided with Rachel's head. Her nose immediately started gushing blood. Taylor didn't realize at first she was bleeding. They got is stopped, but every time she tried to do too much it would start again. She was pretty bummed because she really wanted to try knee boarding. I'm not sure if she broke her nose or not, but she did end up with a couple of black eyes. Her glasses mostly hid them, though. Some of the kids also went fishing. Lindsey caught the biggest fish! She and Robert are the only ones who like fish in our house so she was excited to get to eat her fish for dinner that night.
Naomi brought up a fun game. She took a bunch of little strips of saran wrap and wrapped candy up into balls. You got to unwrap as much as you could in 1 minute and keep whatever candy you unwrapped. For the younger kids it was as simple as that. For the adults and older kids they had to wear cotton gloves as they unwrapped. It was pretty funny to watch.
Hopefully this type of camping trip will become a regular occurrence. I think we are shooting for every other year. It was so much fun and my kids had a good time playing with their cousins. I had a great time visiting with my parents and brothers and sisters.
